FAQs

Your Questions Answered by SonoHealth Experts.

How long is the assessment?

Only 20-30 minutes!

How does it work?

Ultrasound pulses are emitted into the spine and/or femur neck and the echoes traveling back from the bone are analyzed by the system to calculate the density of the bone and the fragility of the bone. This information is combined to produce a 5 year risk of major orthopedic fracture.

How often can I get a REMS scan?

Because it is ultrasound based and paid by the patient then the test can be performed as often as requested. It is recommended that 3-6 months be utilized as a guideline to detect sufficient change for the bone.

What information will I leave with?

The system performs all the required analyses of the acquired information and produces a report within 2 minutes of the scan being completed. You will receive your bone health information immediately (verbally) and you will receive a digital copy of your assessments via email within 48 hours.

Why is REMS more accurate than a DEXA scan, and why are the results different?

The implemented algorithm automatically identifies regions of interest by discarding noisy acquisitions and artifacts, reducing the dependence on the operator experience. The diagnosis is not influenced by the presence of osteoarthritis, scoliosis, calcifications, osteophytes, or other pathologies.

Who is at risk for bone degeneration?

People with a history of Eating Disorders - eating disorders alter bone metabolism.

People who are Pregnant - the hormonal change and transfer of calcium from the mother to the fetus created a decrease in bone density and an increase in fracture risk.

Those in Perimenopause and Menopause - the interruption of estrogen production strongly increases the risk of Osteoporosis.

Cancer patients and survivors - following some oncological therapies, such as steroids or hormonal ablative therapies, a progressive process of rarefaction and weakening of the bones can occur due to decalcification which increases the risk of fracture.

Nephrology - Nephropathies that lead to chronic renal insufficiency are the cause of severe bone alterations resulting in renal osteo-dystrophy. Fracture prevention can improve the living condition f these patents.

Diabetics - Diabetes directly affects bone metabolism, therefore patients who suffer from it have an increased risk of suffering from Osteoporosis and fractures.

The Elderly - the possibility of short-term monitoring the elderly allows us to check the state of bone health and prevent primary fractures and recurrent fractures.
